The game against Cushing was a stunning victory, especially if you like overtime matches. The Cushing team was much stronger than they have been in the last few years; they took the pace early on and we took some time to adjust and gather our own game and momentum and sense of space. Exeter dominated the pace for much of the game with Cushing challenging in small spurts of speed and forward movement throughout the game.
Exeter had a number of shots that were classic field-hockey almosts. The game remained scoreless in regulation time. In a 10 min 7v7 sudden death overtime, Ali Comolli '08 came up with the ball in a sprint and a full body stack and then Kerry Bracco '07 fed the ball to Amanda Roberts '07 (usually a back mid field player) who fired a shot from the left side with 35.2 seconds on the clock. "All great athletes love overtime," I told the team before we headed into it. And they proved themselves great athletes in that 9 min and 64.8 seconds of OT - not simply by winning but by trying to win and staying in each moment completely. The team's play throughout the game was very sturdy, very resilient, very commanding.
