Girls Water Polo: 2008 Season Roundup
Overall record: 8 -6 in league play.
Despite losing five senior starters from the 2007 squad, this team showed great resilience – they lost two heartbreakers to Andover in the regular season, but in the 3rd place championship game at New England's, they beat Andover in a thrilling 8 – 4 contest! Led by Senior captains Grace du Pont and Rachel Granetz, this year's team did not have a superstar on offense, but instead relied on good fundamental water polo and a balanced scoring attack spread out among 15 different players. On Defense, Erika Desmond '08 had a record setting season in goal. Erika set new school records for the most blocks in a season (140) and the highest blocking percentage for a career at 63%. With 17 players, returning coaches Lundy Smith and Melissa Pacific are looking forward to improving on 2008's fantastic finish.
The entire team would like to thank Sam Coes, the Athletic Training staff, Marianne Barbin, managers Matt Mosquera '08, Adam Lebowitz '10 and Amanda Kim '08 and a special thanks goes to assistant coach Niall Janney '08.
