These web sites are reliable, relevant sources for researching Art and related subjects:

African Art, African Voices – This exhibition surveys the artistic achievements of just a few of the many cultures of sub-Saharan Africa. The online highlights include audio.

Archives of American Art – The Archives of American Art, founded in 1954 and a bureau of the Smithsonian Institution since 1970, provides researchers with access to the largest collection of documents on the history of the visual arts in the United States.

International Center of Medieval Art – The International Center of Medieval Art, founded in 1956, seeks to promote the study of the visual arts of the Middle Ages in Europe.

Whitney Museum of American Art – The Whitney collects and exhibits American art from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The Museum's collections start at 1900 and continue to the present.

World Art Database – Portfolios of art, architecture, and sculpture arranged by geographic area or time period.
